Pre-Session

Booking Deposit

Once you've decided to work with us, we'll send an email that contains a few important links. The first is an electronic invoice, which requires a $50 deposit to reserve your session date/time. The remainder of the creative fee is payable on the session date. (There is also the option to pay in full).

Questionnaire

The more we know, the more it'll show!  We've adopted this little saying as a reminder that our sessions rely on getting to know you and your vision for the session. You're busy, so we've designed it to be mobile-friendly and super-simple so you can do it while your waiting for your Cookout tray. Don't forget to share images you love from Pinterest, etc! This helps communicate your vision.

Consultation

Once we've had a chance to look over your questionnaire, we'll contact you to discuss locations, wardrobe, props, etc. and set the basic framework for your session.

  • Locations - If you have already have a location in mind, that's great! If not, there are a number of local free and 'fee' spots in the area that we can suggest. For those that want something a bit different, we love to travel too! Please note:  Mileage rates apply to locations beyond a 20-mile radius of Salisbury city limits. Location fees are included in final invoice.

  • Wardrobe - Once you've selected 4 or 5 potential outfits, we suggest laying them out or trying them on and sending pictures. Sometimes, an outfit looks great, but won't photograph well or isn't a good fit for the location. Having a few extra options always makes the selection process go much smoother.

  • Props - One of the best ways to personalize your session is to incorporate props from activities and hobbies that you're passionate about. During our consultation, we'll discuss your ideas and offer creative ways to display and create interaction.

Session

Meet Up

About 3 days before your session, we'll reach out to confirm time and locations. When you head out the door for your session you'll know exactly where to meet and the first outfit to wear.

Wardrobe Changes

Part of the fun of location photography is finding a place to change clothes! Most of the time we are close enough to a restroom or the car that things are pretty seamless. However, we also have a pop-up changing station for locations where it's more convenient.

Our Process

It's normal to be a little shy in front of the camera, so we like to start off with headshots and simple poses to help you get comfortable. During the session, we'll guide you as often as necessary, but find that most seniors begin to naturally get comfortable.

For most sessions, John and I will both take pictures. I love natural light and John loves using flash so we try to mix it up to give you a good variety.

We always scout before your session and have a basic idea of the sets we'll do at each location. However, we love it when you have ideas too!

Tips for Girls

Hair

Frizziness is our number one enemy. In order to combat this we suggest not washing your hair 24 hours prior to your session. If you must wash it the day of your session, allow it to 90% air dry. There are also a number of shampoos and sprays you can use if you're naturally prone to frizziness.

Makeup

Light makeup prevents shine, but avoid heavy application as it tends to break up as you perspire.

Skin

Spray tans should be done at least 2 weeks prior to your session in order to even out and prevent oompa-loompa skin.

It may seem obvious, but you should get plenty of rest 2-3 consecutive days in order to avoid baggage.

If you're prone to break-outs avoid sugar and fried foods and drink lots of  water during the week prior to your session.

Outfits

Choose colors that compliment your skin-tones.

If you're buying new outfits take someone with you that will give you honest feedback.

Consider including one timeless outfit such as jeans/jean shorts and a simple black or white shirt.
